Fall Rye Whiskeys: New Riff Malted Rye & Blue Note Honey Rye

Rye whiskey is my go-to year-round, but there's something special about it in the fall. As the weather cools, the spicy warmth of a good rye takes me straight to cozy nights, holiday cocktails, and fireside sipping. Forget pumpkin spice—give me cinnamon, clove, and the baking spices of a well-crafted rye. Recently, I tried two standout ryes that are perfect for the season: New Riff Malted Rye & Blue Note Honey Rye
Fall Rye Whiskey's

New Riff Kentucky Straight Malted Rye

New Riff Malted Rye Whiskey

At 100 proof and about $65, New Riff is a 6-year-old rye with versatility. The malty character makes it smooth enough to sip neat, but it’s still got the strength for cocktails. It’s light in color but bold in flavor, with notes of cinnamon, clove, and a toasty, biscuity aroma. Non-chill filtered, it’s full-bodied, with a long, minty-sweet finish that evolves with each sip. It’s complex and worth savoring.

Blue Note Honey Rye Cask

Blue Note Honey Rye Whiskey

If you love a honey finish, Blue Note Honey Rye is your jam. Bottled at a strong 117.2 proof, it’s a 95% rye, aged 3 years and finished in honey casks. The sweetness of wildflower honey mellows the rye’s spice, offering a rich blend of clove, oak, vanilla, and a smooth honey finish. It’s great neat and widely available, so grab a bottle without the wait.

Final Sip

Both ryes bring their own unique twist—New Riff with its malty, spicy depth and Blue Note with its sweet, honey-kissed smoothness. Whether you’re sipping by the fire or mixing up cocktails, these are two bottles worth trying this fall.

🥃 Cheers!
